JGS Meetings for 2012
Our Program Chair, Grace Moran, has been very busy working to fill the
2012 calendar to capacity with informational presentations. We hope
that you will join us for each meeting to see and hear the speakers and to
network with your fellow genealogists.
Membership Meeting – 21 Jan 2012
---- NOTICE ----
Meeting is Cancelled
We have been notified by the Library that the auditorium will
be in use for early voting. After checking some other libraries, without success,
we have decided to cancel the meeting for 21 Jan 2012.
---- HOWEVER ----
Since many of you have been asking for an excursion, the Genealogy
and History department staffs have agreed to give us a tour of their areas
on Saturday, Jan 21st, at 1:30 p.m. They have so much more than just Florida
"stuff".
Ann Staley will be at the library shortly after it opens at 10:00 a.m.,
(hopefully, she says) working on an indexing project. If you are so inclined
and would like to help out, join her at some point before the tour and she
would enjoy having the help. She plans on working with the Jacksonville City
Directories.
So, you can still get your genealogy fix!
2012 Spring Seminar - 18 Feb 2012
We do not have a membership meeting in February, rather we encourage you to join
us at our 7th Annual Spring Seminar being held on 18 Feb 2012. We have
invited Genealogist, Lecturer and Librarian Pamela J. Cooper to be our speaker and
she has accepted. It will be held at St. Paul's Hall in Riverside. Mark your
calendars now for a day of wonderful knowledge building. See the flyer

Topic #1: Planning for 2012
Topic #2: Welcome to the 1940
U.S. Population Census
Topic #1 - Our March meeting has, in the past, been used to critique the Annual Seminar and
to elicit from you, the members, topic ideas for the new year. It has been so successful
that we are going to do it again the year.
Topic #2 - The 1940 U.S. Population Census is scheduled to be open to the public on 2 Apr 2012.
It will not be indexed, at least to begin with. Ann will include information on:
- The history of the 1940 census
- A short National Archives film on the taking of the census
- How to use the census without an index
- How you can help in the indexing process
