NEW - Members Only Area

In the Menu on the left, at the very top, you will notice a new link - Members Only Area. Everyone will be able to access the page to see what we have available; however, you will need a password, which will be sent to members, in order to gain access to the individual items.

The first items to be uploaded are the 2008 Newsletters. The plan is to have the current newsletter, up for members only for a few months and then allow anyone to access them.

Membership Meeting - 20 September 2008

The meeting time will be 1:30 p.m. at the Webb-Wesconnett Library. Our speaker is Barbara Kiersh, a JPL part-time librarian in the Genealogy Department. Barbara will present a review of a non-fiction book titled The Lost German Slave Girl: The Extraordinary True Story of Sally Miller and Her Fight for Freedom in Old New Orleans by John Bailey. Reviews of the book hint at an “investigative history that reads like a suspense novel.” The story is set in 1843 New Orleans and centers around a German slave woman. It ended up in as “one of the most celebrated and sensational trials of nineteenth-century America” going all the way to the Supreme Court try to prove she was a indenture servant illegally enslaved. You will have to come to the meeting to hear “the rest of the story.”

Membership Meeting - 11 October 2008 - DATE CHANGE

NOTE: The date has been changed due to early voting at the Library.

The meeting time will still be the same - 1:30 p.m. - at the Webb-Wesconnett Library. Our speaker is Gregory W. Parsons Greg Parsons, the Curator for the Camp Blanding Museum. His presentation will cover the establishment of Camp Blanding in 1939, its initial construction, and the expansion of the camp under federal government control during World War II.  He will also speak on what went on at Blanding during the war to include the training, operation, and the German POW camp. The sell off of much of the facilities after the war will be discussed as well as its continued use since WW II. This is a “do not miss” meeting!

Membership Meeting - 15 November 2008

We will not have a speaker for this meeting because you are the speakers! This meeting is our annual "Heirloom Day and Social", when members bring their family treasures or heirlooms for display. You should be prepared to present a description of the item or items, approximately two to three minutes in length, and how the item(s) relate to your ancestors. This meeting is always popular - we have food! Our good cooks have brought many delicious items to eat in the past and this year should be no different. Let Tina Frady <TerraB27@aol.com> know what "finger food" you will be bringing.
